Hannah Montana and That’s So Raven
These shows are the BIGGEST series that Disney Channel has ever had. Starting off with That’s So Raven, the FIRST international hit series for the Disney Channel. Drew in more than 3 million viewers per episode. The series is still Disney Channel’s highest-rated show, with the most viewers. The That’s So Raven empire introduced the clothing line, fragrance, cosmetics, accessories, etc.
The Raven empire has brought in over $400 million to Disney. And is STILL the first series with 100 episodes to air on the Disney Channel. And both of the soundtracks hit the Top 5 of Billboard’s Top Soundtracks. The first That’s So Raven soundtrack went double platinum worldwide, and sold around 495,000 copies in the United Stated, according to Billboard/Nielsen SoundScan.
The soundtrack was 2004’s #2 bestseller in soundtracks. The second That’s So Raven Too! soundtrack debuted at #3 on Billboard’s Top Soundtracks. The set included the Radio Disney smash-hit “Some Call It Magic”, which is still today, the latest song that Raven-Symone released to Disney Channel/Radio Disney. The Raven empire continues to still grow in profit ’til this day.
Hannah Montana aired March 2006, drawing in over 5.5 million viewers in it’s premiere. The biggest debut for any Disney series. The Hannah empire has only reached in the area of $10-70 million so far, and is growing. The first Hannah Montana soundtrack surprisingly debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 charts, with 281,000 copies sold, and remained there for a second week in-a-row with 203,000 copies sold. The OST has went 3x platinum according to Billboard. The soundtrack spawned hits such as “The Best Of Both Worlds”, and Hannah’s first ever Hot 100 hit “If We Were A Movie.” Not even a year later after the MUCH success of Hannah Montana and the soundtrack. Disney released the Hannah Montana clothing line, accessories, fragrance (just like they did with Raven). Summer of 2007, Hannah Montana 2: Meet Miley Cyrus, is released, which is a double-disc, including Hannah Montana’s star Miley Cyrus‘ debut album.
The set sold 326,000 copies and went straight to #1 on the charts, and beat out Kelly Clarkson’s third album. The soundtrack featured new Hannah hit’s such as “Nobody’s Perfect” (which reached #28 on the Hot 100), and “Make Some Noise.” The soundtrack has sold nearly 700,000 copies in the United States, and Walt Disney Picture’s plan on releasing a Hannah Montana movie. And a That’s So Raven movie was planned to be in the works, but Raven is too old for Raven, and Disney soon lost interest in the movie.
