1 Why should we know Tila Tequila?
They call her the "Madonna of MySpace," where she has built her celebrity one click at a time. She has more MySpace friends than anyone - 2 million and growing - and gets another 5,000 friend requests each day. Aside from being a scantily clad curiosity online, the 25-year-old is also a model (mostly car shows and Maxim magazine covers) and a singer/rapper (with songs such as Stripper Friends and Playgirl Central). And that was more than enough to make MTV hound her for a TV show of her own. Tequila explained her cyber-success to Time: "There's a million hot naked chicks on the Internet. There's a difference between those girls and me. Those chicks don't talk back to you."
2 What's this about lesbians?
This dating-game reality show comes with a twist: Tequila says she's looking for a mate - and she doesn't care if it's a man or a woman. Thus MTV has invited 16 men and 16 women to vie for her affection. Only neither camp knew the other side existed - or that Tequila was interested - until the end of the first episode.
3 Are these contestants for real?
Feel free to doubt. We do. The sleeveless bundle of testosterone in a cowboy hat, the pizza delivery guy who lives on his mom's couch and the Italian Lothario who wears Speedos emblazoned with his country's flag seem a little too over the top to be authentic. If nothing more, we think it's safe to assume Tequila's keeping them around for good TV - not their company.
4 Is this really an appropriate show for MTV's tweener audience?
Um, no. "Well, I definitely understand why a lot of parents are concerned if their children are 12 or 13, but at the same time I don't think I should be held responsible if the parents allow their kids to watch it," Tequila told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. "At the same time there is a very powerful message with the show . . . it's good to open up people's eyes."
5 Is that her real name?
Please. Did you really just ask that? Tila Nguyen reportedly got her nickname not for her fondness for the liquor, but for how it made her sick.
• A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on MTV
This loss doesn't count
38-0 Technically, that's still the record for "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. after he was knocked out of Dancing With the Stars last week. Even host Tom Bergeron had to concede this was a blessing for the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world, since he faces Ricky Hatton in a bout of the undefeated Dec. 8 in Las Vegas. Mayweather had been juggling training camp with the show, combining daily dance practice with boxing training while commuting between his home in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
